As a heritage from the Colonial days, we Sri Lankans got used to a consumption culture where imported commodities are given preference over locally manufactured goods, both industrial and agricultural, condemning local makes. We do still have a mentality that the imported items are superior in quality and durability.

After the demise of the great hero Anagarika Dharmapala, there was no one in the country to guide the nation on the patriotic path. The politicians in power ill treated the local industries but in most occasions they provided facilities and incentives to imported goods and for importers.

Numbers of criterion are there to measure the economic development of a country. Agriculture and industry are main factors under any criteria mainly due to the grove declaration of the governments. The growth of industry is behind expectations and what really happening is shrinking and deterioration.

Sole objective of Mawbima Lanka Padanama is to arrest this situation by way of encouraging consumption of locally manufactured items, provide protection and encourage uplifting of local industry.

PRIMARY OBJECTS OF MAWBIMA LANKA (as stated in Memorandum of Association)

To accredit, on a voluntary basis, the local industries and locally manufactured products and services, based on their contribution towards building a formidable and sustainable National Economy; and to allow those businesses on agreed conditions to use the accreditation status in the form of a trade mark in their product promotion activities.To conduct educational and socio cultural activities in the direction of creating a consumption culture and a ideology in the society that are conducive and supportive towards developing a formidable and self sustained National Economy.To provide educational, technical and moral assistance to local industrialists in order to improve their business performances which would in turn increase their contribution to the National Economy.To evaluate Local Industries and products annually and award the best practices, products and organizations.

To undertake market and social research that would help local industrialists to improve their business performances.To promote locally manufactured products in the Sri Lankan markets, through advertising campaigns.

To promote lobbying in the interest of local industrialists and to establish a forum of discussion on the problems of local industrialists.To promote inventions in the local industrial sectors.To promote a consumption culture in the country were locally grown food is given preference over imported food items.To provide industrial counseling in view of settling industrial disputes in the accredited local industries and services.OUR STRATEGIC APPROACH
